A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck in the vicinity of the Kermadec Islands north of New Zealand early Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The earthquake hit near Raoul Island in the Kermadec group, 825 kilometres northeast of Auckland, New Zealand, at a depth of 10 kilometers, the USGS said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the USGS said. No tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The Kermadec Islands are part of New Zealand’s biggest marine reserve and are uninhabited except for Department of Conservation staff.
