Summer is a great time of year to spot some amazing life in the seas around New Zealand. If you’ve been lucky enough to sight a whale shark, basking shark, white pointer (great white shark), devil ray or manta ray, then bigfish wants to hear all about it! The bigfish project aims to record sightings of large migratory sharks and ray species found around New Zealand. Very little information currently exists on these species and researchers need public support to determine the distribution and behaviour of these species.

The bigfish website has been set up to enable observers to send in their own observations and images. Species can be individually identified from their unique colour patterns and scars. So if you happen to see one of these amazing animals, visit the bigfish website to download a sighting form.
