Illegal fishers are pillaging our marine reserves
POACHERS pillaging Northland marine reserves of fish have prompted a crackdown by Department of Conservation rangers. Over the holiday season, the rangers have busted six people flouting the rules in the Whangarei Harbour and Poor Knights marine reserves.
YOUR LIMITS
• Crayfish: 6 per diver; minimum size, 52-60mm, depending on sex.
• Paua: 10 each; minimum size, 125mm.
• Snapper: 9 each, minimum size 27cm.
• Kina: 50 per person
• Green-lipped mussels: 50 per person
• Tuatua: 150 per person
• Toheroa: must not be taken unless an open season is declared by the Ministry of Fisheries.
